About Umair Hussain

Umair Hussain is a Partner of Red Chalk Group. For more than 17 years, he has advised senior executives, boards of directors, and investors on the decisions that shape long-term value creation, including where to grow, what to acquire, how to deploy capital, and how to position and differentiate for structural change.

His work focuses on markets being reshaped by technology, digitization, and evolving industrial value chains across the Connected Economy. His experience spans Industrial Technology, Power & Energy Transition, Digital Infrastructure & AI, Smart Cities & Mobility, and the broader industrial and built environment, including the products, services, and infrastructure that enable modern economies to operate, connect, and grow. Umair is particularly known for helping clients navigate the intersection of technology and traditional industries, where emerging capabilities create new avenues for growth, competition, and investment.

Umair advises senior decision-makers during moments of strategic choice. He regularly presents directly to leadership of Fortune 500 industrial companies, leading private enterprises, and private-equity-backed companies on matters involving growth strategy, portfolio evolution, M&A priorities, and major capital commitments. His client base includes global industrial leaders, sovereign enterprises, infrastructure operators, technology providers, and leading private equity investors pursuing large-scale value-creation, acquisition, and investment decisions.

His work often centers on identifying new growth platforms and helping organizations define where and how they should compete as industries evolve. To that end, he has facilitated executive off-sites and leadership workshops for CEOs and senior management teams, helping align long-term vision, strategic priorities, and investment agendas. In addition, he has advised industry consortia on emerging technologies, including the commercialization of next-generation, digital and communications technology standards.

For private equity and other principal investors, Umair brings the same market and strategic perspective to the investment process. He has advised leading global buyout firms on multi-billion-dollar transactions and has presented directly to investment committees regarding industry outlooks, competitive dynamics, investment theses, and value-creation opportunities. His experience spans the commercial considerations related to leveraged buyouts, take-privates, corporate carve-outs, middle-market acquisitions, and growth equity investments. He is particularly recognized for helping investors assess technology-driven change and its implications for industry structure, competitive advantage, and long-term value creation.

Umair began his career as an Investment Banking Analyst at FT Partners in San Francisco. He received an MBA with Honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Accountancy and Finance, with Honors, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
